REDUCE, REUSE, REPURPOSE, RECYCLE
“Future populations are going to look at landfills like they are goldmines, full of resources, and wonder what we were all thinking”

Jason Farahnik, Project Manager at CarbonLite

When you order-in, ask for the plastic service pack (fork, knife, toothpick, tissue)
NOT TO BE SENT

TAKE A TUPPERWARE to the supermarket to directly fill it with the cheese or meat
you want to buy.

Always try to fit in data to one page for
printing, and always PRINT ON THE TWO
SIDES of a single paper.
When you go to the store, especially to
a drug store, DON’T ASK FOR A PLASTIC
BAG if the things you bought fit in your
handbag/pocket.

USE OLD CLOTHES OR RAGS for cleaning
around the house, instead of paper towels.

You can REPURPOSE a water bottle by
turning it into a plant pot

TAKE A REUSABLE TRAVEL MUG to the
coffee shop.

REUSE THE PLASTIC BAGS from one
supermarket, to another.

MAKE YOUR OWN soap and detergents;
you can find easy recipes, based on
white vinegar or baking powder, online.

Instead of throwing fruit and vegetable peels
in the garbage, ADD THEM TO PLANT SOIL,
for they have fertilizing properties.
Add alcohol into your hand sanitizer gels
when they’re halfway empty to SQUEEZE
THE LAST BITS OF THE GEL.

Instead of throwing empty jars, food
containers, and zipper-sealed plastic
bags, clean them and USE THEM TO
STORE OTHER FOODS.

a huge problem, is in fact our finest source”

throw away.

When contaminated water enters the
ground, it taints the soil it passes through
with toxic substances; some of them are
still unrecognized by chemists. The soil
remains TOXIC FOR A LONG TIME, and
contaminates any water passing through
it, even if that water is clean.

X Trash burning is
harmless

X It won’t affect me directly
because it’s not in my neighborhood/under my house.

X Recycling paper saves
trees.

X We can’t safely dispose
of solid waste.

X The aftermath of the
garbage crisis takes a
long time.

Carcinogens in the air INCREASE BY AT LEAST 2300%
during waste burning.
The chemicals and toxins in the air are increasing
the risk of developing cancer, pneumonia, neurological
and developmental disorders.
It is more important that we reduce the amount of
paper we use and sustainably harvest trees, since
recycling paper is energy intensive and produces
toxic byproducts.
The process of Reducing, Recycling and Re-Purposing
already decreases greatly the dangers of solid waste. Then,
the new technologies used in the design of the landfills
permit safe disposal of the remaining solid waste without
threat to human health or the environment.
Considering Lebanon’s geology, pollutants from
waste are rapidly sneaking their way through the
ground, resulting in the CONTAMINATION OF OUR
FOOD, VEGGIES AND THE WATER WE DRINK.

X

Pizza and Doughnut
boxes are recyclable.

Cardboard boxes that are tarnished with food, or any
paper product that is stained with grease or food, are
not recyclable – unless you remove the tainted portions.

X

Recycling is the best
solution.

Recycling is the last in the RRRR Hierarchy, WHAT IS MOST
IMPORTANT IS THAT WE REDUCE WASTE, then reuse or
maximize the life of our products, then last comes recycling.

Thrown in the TRASH, this bottle ends up
in one of many DUMPS. With time, due to
EXPOSURE TO RAIN, its water soluble
particles will be absorbed by rainwater.
This leads to the FORMATION OF LEACHATE,
A HIGHLY TOXIC SUBSTANCE. T his mi x is
finally ABSORBED BY THE GROUND, and fills
up underground water recesses, the very
WATER THAT WE DRINK in our daily lives.

This bottle ends up in ONE

OF MANY MASSIVE
GARBAGE PATCHES littering our expanses of
SEAWATER. SEA ANIMALS AND BIRDS GET ENTANGLED IN THOSE FLOATING PILES OF TRASH
while some mistake the garbage for food. If a
turtle were to eat decomposed bits of plastic
bottles, IT WOULD THINK ITSELF FULL AND
THUS BE UNABLE TO EAT FOR A LONG TIME,
leading to its starvation and death.

This bottle is brought into a plant, where it is
COMPRESSED along with many other bottles
into blocks of plastic. They are later SHREDDED
into minuscule bits, which are washed and
melted, turning into the raw material that CAN
BE REUSED to produce many different products.
We have now an efficient, eco-friendly cycle
of production, which prevents the phenomena
seen with the other bottles.
