FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 6, 2016

GRASSROOTS SUPPORT HELPS BRIAN SIMS RAISE $230,000 FROM 2500
CONTRIBUTORS IN HIS CAMPAIGN FOR CONGRESS
Philadelphia, PA – State Representative Brian Sims’ campaign to represent the 2nd Congressional District
in the United States House of Representatives has received more than $230,000 in contributions from
more than 2500 individuals this quarter. The 2500 contributors included in the fourth quarter report
make Brian’s grassroots fundraising network one of the largest for any House primary candidate to date.
Brian’s average donor pitched in less than $100 to send a true champion of progressive values to fight
for them in Congress.
“I am proud to have so many grassroots supporters on my team, and encouraged by
the thousands of people who have stepped up to send a true progressive to represent
them in Congress,” said Representative Sims. “The people of our community deserve
advocates in Washington who are as hard working and passionate about this city as
they are.”
“I will take their fight to Washington. I will be an ally in the effort to reduce gun
violence. I will stand up to protect women’s rights and fight for equal pay for equal
work. I will fight for investment in our public schools. I will work to give every school in
every neighborhood the tools they need to ensure every child has a shot at success.”
The numbers reported in today’s release show that Sims has an impressive amount of local and national
support. This outpouring of support is the result of a candidate who is fully engaged in this highly
competitive election, and who understand the needs of his community.
Brian Sims, the son of two retired Army lieutenant colonels, was the first openly LGBT person ever
elected to the General Assembly in Pennsylvania, where he has been a staunch advocate for civil rights.
Brian came out to his college football team after leading them to the Division II national championship
game as their captain, and has since dedicated himself to fighting for social justice as an attorney,
advocate, and a legislator from Center City Philadelphia.
