Who is Eligible?
The 21st Annual CTF Transportation Education Symposium is open to California
university undergraduates in the fields of transportation - usually civil engineering and
transportation planning - although students with other transportation related majors may
also be welcome. University faculty must recommend students. We are looking for
articulate, high performing students.
When?
Name badges, conference program, coffee and muffins will be available as early as
9:00 am on October 15. The program begins at 10:00am and ends at 1:30pm on
October 16. Your professor must submit your nomination by September 14.
Cost?
Free to students. Providing worthy students free participation in this event is part of the
mission of the nonprofit California Transportation Foundation. CTF does not cover the
cost of student travel to the event.
Hotel Information
Your Transportation Education Symposium experience will include a complimentary
sleeping room reservation at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center. You will
be housed with a student roommate. All meals are included with your registration and
are taken together with the professionals.
Transportation, Carpooling and Free Shuttle From Airport
The only thing you need to pay for is your travel to the Education Symposium. For
those flying into Southern California, we will provide free airport shuttle from the Ontario,
although you must arrange for a flight that arrives by 9:15am. The shuttle is only for

students arriving via the airport. If you are driving please let us know if you would like us
to arrange a carpool. Many universities reimburse students for the cost of travel.
Contact your nominating professor to find out if your university does so.
Who Will Be There?
You will join thirty-eight other junior or senior undergraduate students majoring in
transportation-related fields from schools throughout the state and forty high-level
professionals from all fields of transportation, public and private sector.
What You Should Get Out of the Symposium
Jump in. Speak up. Eat lunch with your professional partner and build relationships that
will last beyond this Symposium. No advanced preparation is required. Especially
during the session on employment make sure you ask what you want to know – starting
salaries at their firms, graduate school or not, interview techniques. Don’t miss this
opportunity to get the straight scoop. The professionals are excited about the
Symposium and meeting you. They are covering your cost of attendance with their
registration fees and sponsorships.
CTF Scholarships
This year we are offering three scholarships with a combined total value of $8,500.
Only the thirty-eight students who attend the 2015 CTF Transportation Education
Symposium will receive scholarship applications. The scholarship awards will
be presented in Sacramento in February and in May. Students will be eligible even if
they graduate between the Symposium in October and presentation of the
award. Use it to pay off student loans or go to grad school.
What to Wear
Dress is smart casual. In other words, no suits, ties or pantyhose, but no board shorts
or tank tops either.
