MAY 23, 2015

VOLUME 1 ISSUE NO.23

Order of Asclepius:
Beyond Borders
Article by: John Ramel Rafael

T

he Order of Asclepius, in
realizing its desire to
provide accessible and
free services to our
countrymen in the community setting,
participates in circumcision drives all
throughout the summer season.
Furthermore, activities such as these
provide
an
avenue
to
foster
brotherhood in medicine through
service.
A number of surgical missions
have been conducted in various cities
and municipalities throughout Western
Visayas, and thousands of school-age
boys have surely benefited from these
activities.
With
the
growing
membership of the Order of Asclepius
throughout the Philippine archipelago,
it is only a matter of time before the
organization extends its services to a
wider number of people.

Resident
members
Meghan
Lamprea, Elly Novem Eluna and John
Ramel Rafael (Batch 37) took part in a
surgical mission at Brgy. Reyes,
Banga, South Cotabato on May 23,
2015. Naira Mitz Ampuan from
West Visayas State University –
College
of
Medicine
Class
of 2017 (Excelsior) and Czarra
Inopel from the Central Philippine
University – College of Medicine
who came all the way from Davao
City
and
Kidapawan
City,
respectively, took part in the
day-long affair.
Registered nurses Loreen Ann
Eludo, Louie John Sabas and Annie
Pastor who are all graduates of San
Pedro College in Davao City also
volunteered
for
the
activity.
Furthermore, healthcare workers,
including nurses, from the Sultan

Kudarat Mobile Hospital also extended
their expertise.
Some 150 school age boys
benefited from the ‘operation tuli’.
Post-operative medications for pain
and antibiotics were provided as well
as health education for home care of
circumcision site.
The said activity was made
possible through the efforts of the
Sultan Kudarat Provincial Health Office
headed by its Provincial Health
Officer, Dr. Rex Archangel S. Lamprea,
and the local government of Brgy.
Reyes, Banga, South Cotabato, under
the leadership of Hon. Pedro G. Bolivar
III.
There will come a day when the
Order of Asclepius will spread its wing
and be an agent of public service and
community leadership in Luzon,
Visayas and Mindanao. #
